Aims and Fit of Module
Epidemiology is the branch of medicine that deals with the incidence, distribution, and possible control of diseases and other factors relating to health. It is the largest area where biostatistics applies in medicine.
The aim of this module is to provide students with an opportunity to gain sufficient knowledge about epidemiology and adequate skills in epidemiological research.
Learning outcomes
A. Demonstrate a thorough understanding on principles of epidemiology
B. Demonstrate appropriate knowledge on major methodologies of epidemiological studies
C. Demonstrate appropriate statistical knowledge and skills for epidemiological research
Method of teaching and learning
The module is delivered through a combination of lectures and tutorials over a period of 13 weeks. In lectures, students are introduced to the core concepts, major methodologies, and common topics and issues in epidemiology, and to the common and advanced statistics used in epidemiological research. Tutorials are given as a platform to address any specific question or issue from individual students.
