Aims and Fit of Module
The module introduces students to Materials and construction. It focuses on the culture of the building industry; construction methodology and the integration and relationship of materials with architectural design. Students are encouraged to learn through the use of models, drawings and materials research
Learning outcomes
A Identify typical construction materials and their appropriate application for specific construction tasks.
B Identify and present key properties of construction materials and how they relate to questions of sustainability.
C Develop an understanding of the relationship between aesthetic aspects and technical requirements within the local context.
D Critically review precedents relevant to the function, organisation and technical strategy of design proposals.
Method of teaching and learning
The module will be based on lectures where examples of building technology and construction are explained. The students will deepen their understanding and knowledge by hands-on practice and exercises.
