Aims and Fit of Module
This module introduces students to the management of architectural practice, the role of the architect as a professional and the role of the architect in the construction industry.
Learning outcomes
A: Recognize the role of Professional Practice in Architecture.
B: Identify and apply principles of business management.
C: Examine and illustrate how architecture practices operate.
D: Evaluate the operation of architectural practice within the framework of construction.
E: Identify and apply principles, practicalities and problems of planning and management of the design process.
F: Categorize the principles of whole life cycle assessment at the design stage.
G: Demonstrate an understanding of professional ethics, legal context and managerial demands of professional practice, addressing specifically, the regulations to prepare designs that will meet building users’ requirements and comply with UK and Chinese legislation, appropriate performance standards and health and safety requirements.
Method of teaching and learning
A combination of learning methods will be used including lectures, seminars, case studies, self-study projects and student presentations. Appropriate external professionals will give lectures/ seminars on specific topics.
