Aims and Fit of Module

This module provides an introduction to Chinese history of the pre-imperial and imperial periods and to the scholarly literature devoted Chinese history and China’s historical relations with other cultures and civilizations.

Learning outcomes

A. Demonstrate broad knowledge of Chinese history and culture.

B. Show familiarity with historical methods, including change over time, causality, contingency, and complexity.

C. Demonstrate awareness of the principal debates in the academic literature on Chinese history.

D. Communicate historical understanding of China effectively in written and oral forms.

E. Demonstrate an awareness of China's diversity and its connections to wider regional and global contexts.
