Aims and Fit of Module

This module provides an introduction to the government and public policy systems of the PRC and to the social science literature on both government and politics generally, and in the PRC.

Learning outcomes

A. Apply the principle debates in the international academic literature about the PRC government and politics.

B. Show an understanding of the actors and the process of politics and policymaking in contemporary China.

C. Demonstrate skills of critical reading of academic texts to understand how a scholarly argument is constructed.

D. Demonstrate academic writing skills to analyze the existing literature and apply them to specific case studies.

E.  Analyse and discuss the ways in which different kinds of sources treat information.

F. Show an understanding of the impact of the domestic socio-economic environment on the PRC system of government.
