Aims and Fit of Module
This module aims to provide a set of professional and analytical skills to students in order to increase their competitive profile in the job market. Students will learn how to critically understand key concepts in China Studies as foundation to produce non-academic texts that are common working tools in multiple professional environments, such as large corporations and small and medium enterprises, national and local governments, international institutions and other kind of social organizations.
Learning outcomes
A Identify the characteristics, purposes and readers of academic and non-academic texts.
B Demonstrate understanding of the structure, content and goals of different kinds of professional texts.
C Engage in data analysis and strategies of data interpretation useful for non-academic research.
D Structure critical assessments of key terms and concepts in the field of China studies.
E Produce non-academic text about socioeconomic issues in contemporary China.
Method of teaching and learning
1) Lectures. In these sessions, the lecturer will provide an overview about the main conceptual points of each weekly topic, including for this purpose clear examples.
2) Seminars. Students will apply the knowledge acquired in the lectures and weekly readings through different individual and collective activities organized around the formats of debates, case studies and forums. During seminars, students will actively engage in a systematic analysis of different kinds of non-academic texts.
3) Online activities. The module will use tools of the Learning Mall platform to enhance student’s learning experience.
