Aims and Fit of Module
To provide awareness and understanding of principles of conceptual and preliminary design of a new building with the consideration of the perspective on architectural and engineering aspects.
Learning outcomes
A Understand the processes and the methodology in the context of architecture, structural design, construction and environment to apply at the conceptual and preliminary design stage of buildings.
B Incorporate architectural features and structural design requirements of buildings.
C Analyze a wide range of theoretical, architectural, design and technical information to develop conceptual/detailed drawings considering architectural and structural requirements.
D Apply architectural and engineering concepts on building design within the framework of international design codes and provide professional judgements.
E Apply group work, time management and communication skills on architectural/civil engineering projects.
Method of teaching and learning
The content of the module is delivered through lectures, tutorials and design lab classes. A design project will be assigned to groups of students to design a building including structures, building envelopes, and building service systems
