Composite Structures

Module Title Composite Structures
Module Level Level 3
Module Credits 2.50

Aims and Fit of Module

The module is designed to complement the theoretical knowledge developed in previous concrete design modules. It aims to consolidate students’ understanding of concrete structures design and provide them with a basis for designing concrete composite structures. The course also provides students with design and modelling techniques used for practical applications.

Learning outcomes

A	Review and complement analysis techniques of concrete structures.
B Develop design schemes according to industry practices.
C Apply theories relevant to composite slab and beam designs according to EC4.
D Analyze and design steel-concrete composite slabs and beams.

Method of teaching and learning

The teaching is a mixture of lectures and labs sessions. The assessment is a coursework based on a composite design incorporating practical details. Formative assessment will be included during the course of the delivery period.
