Aims and Fit of Module
The module aims to introduce students to the fundamental experimental methods typically encountered in materials science and mechanics. The primary focus of the module is to enable students to understand the practical aspects of different techniques used for material characterisation and behaviour under mechanical loading.
Learning outcomes
A Apply fundamental techniques used in materials science and mechanics.
B Analyse experimental data and derive information about the structure and behaviour of materials.
C Determine the properties of materials through experimentation and relate the structure and processing behaviour of these materials to the properties.
Method of teaching and learning
The module is delivered through formal lectures, tutorial exercises and experimental laboratory classes. Students will learn through a combination of theory and practical experimentation and develop data analysis, writing and oral presentation skills through laboratory and project work.
