Characterization of Materials and applications

Module Title Characterization of Materials and applications
Module Level Level 2
Module Credits 5.00

Aims and Fit of Module

The aim of this module is to learn and acquire practical skills of synthesis, fabrication, characterization and application of different materials.

Learning outcomes

A: Understand and apply modern synthesis techniques to prepare materials.
B: Demonstrate a basic understanding of the fundamental principles for chemical and morphological analysis of materials.
C: Select and apply appropriate techniques for materials characterization
D: Undertake hands-on data acquisition and analysis.
E: Communicate experimental results effectively.

Method of teaching and learning

The Module is practical- based. The module consists of a variety of experiments that allow students to develop their practical skills in preparation, characterization of different types of materials and the skills in investigating these materials’ physical and chemical properties. There are also seminars to help students to better understand the techniques they use during the practical. To complete this module, students are expected to attend all the classes, complete experiments in a timely manner, and submit lab reports and coursework.
