Aims and Fit of Module

The aim of this module is to equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in their future careers. By engaging in an in-depth, independent research project, students will develop a comprehensive understanding of the scientific method in chemistry and gain practical experience in applying it to a real-world problem. Aims:

Learning outcomes

A demonstrate a critical awareness and understanding of the relevant scientific literature associated with their project.
B	plan a piece of scientific research, formulate a hypothesis and design a set of experiments to test this hypothesis.
C	demonstrate a comprehensive understanding research ethics and safety protocols.
D	work independently in the lab with the essential technical skills acquired. E maintain an accurate, comprehensive and intelligible record of methods and experimental findings.
F	compose a project report in the format of a scientific manuscript or dissertation, ensuring it is clear, concise, and scientifically rigorous..
G	effectively present their work to a scientific audience in the form of an oral and poster presentations, demonstrating clear communication skills and the ability to engage with the audience.

Method of teaching and learning

This module involves tutorials to help students on literature survey, presentation, report writing, lab safety, and project planning. Students are required to attend departmental seminars to increase their general knowledge. Specific technical training will be given by supervisor and technical supporting staffs. Students have to participate in a specified research project and to complete a thesis.
