Chinese Language 1

Module Title Chinese Language 1
Module Level Level 0
Module Credits 5.00

Aims and Fit of Module

This module aims to help students with no prior Chinese knowledge to establish a solid foundation in their Chinese study, bringing their Chinese language proficiency to a level equivalent to CEFR A1.
All the Chinese language modules have been developed taking into account the QAA benchmark statements for a full or minor component in a language. QAA benchmark statements relate to the language component comprising at least one-third of the study total, resulting in students at the end of the relevant degree programme being at level C1. These Chinese modules make up less than one third of study and so the realistic minimum that would be achieved for a student starting at a beginner level in year 1 is CEFR B1+, though students with some initial knowledge would be at B2+.

This module includes 2*2 hours seminars plus 1 hour lecture per week. Students will have 4 hours per week of integrated skills class, covering reading, writing, listening and speaking skills. The lecture, which is a large group practice and review session, will be designed to support student learning in and after class.
