Aims and Fit of Module

This module will introduce the key concepts of psychology in education. Two major complementary aspects will be examined: pastoral care and teaching. Students will be engaged in the practice in a wide range of topics in schools, such as individual difference, learning motivation, misbehavior, effective teaching and teaching evaluation, and to explore how psychological concepts can be used as a basis for supporting teaching and learning in schools.

Learning outcomes

A	Understand the core concepts of psychology in education and schools regarding effective teaching practice as well as pastoral care 
B	Examine how academic studies have informed our understanding of teaching and childcare
C	Critically identify and reflect on the issues and the quality of the practice regarding educational psychology in Chinese and British education system
D	Acquire analytical knowledge about different strategies to support effective teaching and pastoral care in schools

Method of teaching and learning

The teaching sessions are interactive and divided into two components: lectures and tutorials/workshops. The tutorials/workshops will build on the material covered in the lectures.
