Aims and Fit of Module

This module provides students with a comprehensive understanding of family education, its foundational theories, and guiding principles. By engaging with diverse family theories and childrearing practices, alongside empirical research, students will enhance their understanding of the family system and the complex relationships within it. Attention will also be given to identifying potential risk and resilience factors in families with varying characteristics and children at different developmental stages, deepening students’ engagement with the crucial role families play in individual development. Students will engage in the development of evidence‑based intervention strategies, which will be enhanced by the use of digital tools (including AI and AI-enabled tools and platforms) and data‑driven methods.

B. Analyze complex family systems and dynamics across varied social and cultural contexts using multiple perspectives for a more comprehensive understanding of the complexities of family education.
C. Evaluate and reflect on the multi-dimensional influences of family and societal factors on holistic child development.
D. Design innovative, evidence-based, technology-enhanced frameworks to address emerging challenges in family education.

Method of teaching and learning

This module integrates Research-Led Project-Based Learning (RLPBL) to offer a dynamic and applied exploration of the family education field. Through a combination of lectures and tutorials, it delivers key conceptual and theoretical insights while delving into real-world family issues. Learning strategies focus on student-centred interactive activities and, where possible, integrating technology to facilitate learning. This approach offers students ample opportunities to critically reflect on how the knowledge gained can be applied in real-world settings, effectively bridging theory with practical application in family contexts.
