Aims and Fit of Module

This module focuses on quality practice in pedagogy particularly for SEN students. It will explore how teachers can equip learners with special needs for life and engage them with valued forms of mainstream learning; how they can promote the active engagement of the SEN learner, assess the needs of them and recognize the significance of the mainstream, informal and teacher learning. It will introduce students to key psychological ideas that have been applied to teaching SEN students in schools.

Learning outcomes

A	Demonstrate applications of the key pedagogical ideas regarding teaching SEN students in schools and other alternative teaching settings
B	Show awareness of theoretical frameworks and relevant research findings regarding teaching SEN students in schools and other alternative teaching settings
C	Differentiate theories, principles, methodologies, strategies, techniques, materials and research findings to enhance teaching practice for SEN students
D	Design courses and related materials appropriate to student’s level, interests, need, background and learning context

Method of teaching and learning

The teaching sessions are interactive and divided into two components: lectures and tutorials/workshops. The tutorials/workshops will build on the materials covered in the lectures.
