Module Title Development And Educational Psychology Across The Lifespan
Module Level Level 4
Module Credits 5

Aims and Fit of Module

This module will explore key concepts and current research in developmental psychology and educational psychology. Students will learn about cognitive, language, and social-emotional development across the life span, as well as a wide range of topics related to learning and teaching in schools (e.g., individual difference, learning motivation, effective teaching, and teaching evaluation). Students will explore how psychological concepts can be used as a basis for supporting individual development and learning. Digital tools (including AI and AI-enabled tools and platforms) and data‑driven methods will also be integrated to enhance student learning.

Learning outcomes

A. Synthesize theoretical frameworks of human development across the lifespan to analyze individual differences in key developmental domains.
B. Synthesize and integrate core psychological concepts into the evaluation of diverse learning and teaching environments to enhance educational practice.
C. Critically evaluate and reflect on practical and empirical perspectives in developmental/educational psychology.
D. Analyze and justify research-informed, technology-enhanced strategies and frameworks that support development and learning across varied contexts.

Method of teaching and learning

The module integrates Research-Led Project-Based Learning (RLPBL) to provide a dynamic and applied exploration of developmental and educational psychology. Through a combination of lectures and tutorials, students engage with key conceptual and theoretical insights while delving into real-world issues. Learning strategies focus on student-centered interactive activities and, where possible, integrating technology to facilitate learning. This approach offers students ample opportunities to critically reflect on how the knowledge gained can be applied in real-world settings, effectively bridging theory with practical application.
