Aims and Fit of Module

This module will focus on the social and emotional development of gifted and talented students and introduce key knowledge and skills needed to effectively support the healthy psychosocial development of gifted students. Students will gain an overview of the characteristics and needs of gifted and talented students, such as diversity issues, family/parenting concerns, current educational approaches, and counseling interventions. Students will also be able to apply different social and affective strategies to promote social-emotional well-being among gifted and talented students.

Learning outcomes

A	Demonstrate knowledge of major theories of social-emotional, identity, and career development for gifted and talented students
B	Analyze, synthesize, and evaluate current research literature on the social and affective characteristics and needs of gifted and talented students
C	Apply specific strategies for supporting gifted and talented students within the classroom contexts and other relevant contexts

Method of teaching and learning

The teaching sessions are interactive and divided into two components: lectures and tutorials/workshops. The tutorials/workshops will build on the material covered in the lectures.
