Aims and Fit of Module
The aims of this module are to provide students the opportunity to experience and operate in a real world situation. Students need to apply their knowledge and skills learnt in the class to demonstrate their professional abilities, problem solving, and communication skills in the workplace.
This module is one of the two important modules in year 2 for the intrapreneur track, providing students with a semester long work experience within company.
The work placement will be in one of the tracks that the student has chosen to follow in the pathways: Smart Cities; Business; Circular Economy; FinTech, Technology Transfer Management; Creative Technology; and Enterprise Governance, Innovation, and Succession.
Learning outcomes
A Understand roles, structure, organizational operation, and management of the chosen pathway in the real world, showing how theory informs practice and the impact on the individual.
B Demonstrate a critical understanding of the organization in which the placement is completed
C Develop and demonstrate key skills including individual, team-working, problem-solving and analytical skills.
Method of teaching and learning
Students will be helped to secure a suitable work placement, which will be checked for sustainability by the Programme Director. One semester is spent in the workplace. Prior to joining the placement, students receive lectures for 1 week to familiarize themselves with expectations and the assessments.
Students will be visited a minimum of 2 times during the semester by the module leader.
