Aims and Fit of Module

The aim is to introduce basic concepts and emerging topics in environmental sciences to students by putting emphasis on understanding and critically evaluating research articles.

Learning outcomes

A Demonstrate an understanding of basic concepts in environmental sciences
B Demonstrate an understanding of a topic in the frontiers of environmental sciences and propose new research directions
C Contribute to a productive discussion of research papers and manuscripts
D Identify common pitfalls in research
E Compose a paper critique of research papers
F Demonstrate an understanding of the manuscript review system, and being able to write a constructive review of manuscripts

Method of teaching and learning

The module will be delivered by self-study and seminars, including activities as follows
• Self-study – reading papers & manuscripts
• Self-study - writing paper/manuscript reviews and critiques
• Seminars - Class paper/manuscript discussions
