Aims and Fit of Module
This module is designed to:
Enable students to record audio in a wide range of location environments
Enable students to begin their understanding of the importance of sound in film production during production and post-production
Learning outcomes
A Operate at a basic and safe level when setting up and using location sound recording equipment.
B Demonstrate a practical understanding of the relationship between the moving image and sound.
Method of teaching and learning
The teaching sessions are divided into three components (Lectures, technical screenings and practical workshops).
Lectures will focus on the art of sound recording.
Technical screenings will allow technical discussion about the development of motion picture sound and Foley.
An intensive series of practical workshops will equip the students with the technical skills, understanding of location sound recording and practical troubleshooting of equipment use.
Within lab work the emphasis will be on the manipulation of audio using software techniques
