Aims and Fit of Module
This module is designed to:
Enable students to understand the process from script to screen and use a range of techniques to realize a short directed sequence
Enable students to demonstrate the ability to work with actors and communicate with a film crew whilst filming a short visual sequence
Enable students to demonstrate the ability to critically reflect on their decision making and place it within a historical context
Learning outcomes
A Understand the role of the director in the production process and within the realization of a given scene/project
B Demonstrate the practical skills of directing within the context of a short narrative sequence
C Demonstrate the ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively in a project based activity
D Inform practice by placing it in an historical and conceptual framework
Method of teaching and learning
The teaching sessions are divided into three components (Lectures, technical screenings and practical workshops).
A series of lectures will provide the historical and conceptual background to understand the director and his/her process
Screenings will allow the students to discuss the work of some of the great directors
Practical workshops will focus on the process of working with actors, performance and visual storytelling
