Aims and Fit of Module
This module aims to enable students to develop programme ideas for a television audience and make them aware of the industry standard requirements in pre-production. It will establish the fundamental requirements of developing and preparing ideas across a range of genres in studio and on location.
The module also aims to give students the opportunity to work at junior levels on a live studio production and on an outside broadcast insert in the same production.
Learning outcomes
A Develop a short form programme idea
B Conduct basic research, development and programme planning to take their idea up to the production phase
C Work in junior production roles on a live studio show
Method of teaching and learning
The teaching sessions are divided into two components (lectures and seminars).
The lectures will introduce students to the notion that development is a creative phase in TV production; that to create successful TV projects, the development phase involves a substantial amount of ideation and that the development phase is only successful if there is a clear path to pre-production.
The seminars will involve participatory workshops, working in the studio and working together in small groups as well as individually.
Thus, students will be taught through:
Lectures
Participatory workshops
Individual and small group work
Practical sessions and
Self directed learning
