Aims and Fit of Module
This module is designed to:
Introduce students to the craft of storytelling including basic building blocks of character creation, intention, conflict etc.
Provide a historical context for stories and myths from diverse cultures
Engage students in the art of storytelling
Promote the rules of storytelling and allow the generation of original stories
Learning outcomes
A.Understand mythic structures and how they permeate film and TV stories
B.Comprehend the significance of character arc and character development, conflict (inner and externalized); and how this can be conveyed to an audience
C.Engage in the practical task of writing an original narrative story
Method of teaching and learning
The teaching sessions are divided into two components (Lectures and seminars).
A series of lectures will provide the historical and conceptual background to understand the writer and his/her process
Seminars will focus on the practical process of ideas generation and writing exercises.
