Aims and Fit of Module
This module introduces the background, models, techniques, and applications of digital media arts. The students will learn about the fundamentals of this modern form of art practice and discover what they can pursue in the future as a digital media artist. There will be lectures and seminal activities to discuss the historical development, principle knowledge, current trends... etc. of digital media. In addition, creative tools/software will be used in company to exercise the expressive, aesthetical aspects of this module.
This module is designed to:
• Introduce students to the core skills required for image manipulation and time based media through computer applications and process.
• Enable students to generate new and exciting ways of generating ideas using a wide range of media
• Provide students with a sound basis of knowledge in the fundamentals, language and application of motion & time based theory and practice
Learning outcomes
A Understand key foundational concepts for working with digital media
B Identify and employ a variety of media to successfully negotiate a successful digital media design solution
C Utilise a range of image manipulation techniques and editing procedures.
D Successfully organise all aspects of a project, integrating the technical requirements of pre-production and filmic language, into the creative outcome of a project.
Method of teaching and learning
The teaching sessions are divided into three components (Lectures, seminars and Lab practicals). In addition, students will be expected to attend at least 2 tutorials per semester
Lectures will focus on time based theory and technical practice.
Seminars will allow technical discussion about the development of computer applications in the design process.
An intensive series of practical workshops will equip the students with the computer skills, understanding of composition, framing and non-linear narrative with practical troubleshooting of software.
