Aims and Fit of Module
The module aims to provide students with an understanding of project management and its principles in a contemporary project environment, as well as the strategies to achieve a successful project management outcome.
Learning outcomes
Upon successful completion of this module, the student should be able to:
A. Explain the role of project management, its relationship to other disciplines, and the phases of a project lifecycle.
B. Apply project management methodologies and techniques to develop a project charter, scope definition, and work breakdown structure.
C. Formulate a risk management plan, including analysis, prioritization, and contingency strategies for a given project.
D. Utilize project management software to create and communicate key planning artifacts, such as schedules and resource budgets.
Method of teaching and learning
The teaching philosophy of the module follows very much the philosophy of Syntegrative Education. This has meant that the teaching delivery pattern, which follows more intensive block teaching, allows more meaningful contribution from industry partners. This philosophy is carried through also in terms of assessment, with reduction on the use of exams and increase in coursework, especially problem-based assessments that are project focused. The delivery pattern provides space in the semester for students to concentrate on completing the assessments.
A combination of lectures, seminars and computer laboratory work.
