Aims and Fit of Module
The aim of the module is to provide students the importance of collaborations between suppliers, customers, competitors and other parties in supply chains.
The module covers an extensive range of subjects, including optimal design of value chains, current research topics in value chain management and it effect on information system, production process and other aspects of business environment.
The module enables student to: (i) understand the current trends and research topics in value chain management, (ii) understand and apply a range of tools and models relevant to the effective management of value chains, and (iii) obtain an essential ability to understand the effectiveness of value chain and provide approaches to tackle the existing problems.
A. Use tools and techniques to understand the current trends of value chain management
B. Use tools and models for identifying and analyzing strengths and drawbacks within value chains
C. Use tools and techniques to provide advises and approaches on how to create an effective value chain.
D. Demonstrate understanding of the practical implications and application of related tools and models in value chain assessment
E. Develop skills to assess relevant issues from strategic perspectives.
Method of teaching and learning
The teaching philosophy of the module follows very much the philosophy of Syntegrative Education. This has meant that the teaching delivery pattern, which follows more intensive block teaching, allows more meaningful contribution from industry partners. This philosophy is carried through also in terms of assessment, with reduction on the use of exams and increase in coursework, especially problem-based assessments that are project focused. The delivery pattern provides space in the semester for students to concentrate on completing the assessments.
A combination of formal lectures, seminars as well as tutorials will be leveraged to enable the appreciation of technical aspects of operations management and the ability to use the relevant numerical tools and analysis methods.
