Aims and Fit of Module
The module aims to introduce students to the basic principles of Chinese Law. It highlights the important legal principles that affect day-to-day business transactions and relationships in China, making students aware of the legal responsibilities and obligations of companies and employers.
Learning outcomes
A. Demonstrate awareness of how Chinese Law operates in the Chinese business environment.
B. Demonstrate understanding of the structure and fundamental principles of Chinese Law.
C. Apply Chinese Law to interpret case scenarios.
Method of teaching and learning
The teaching philosophy of the module follows very much the philosophy of Syntegrative Education. This has meant that the teaching delivery pattern, which follows more intensive block teaching, allows more meaningful contribution from industry partners. This philosophy is carried through also in terms of assessment, with reduction on the use of exams and increase in coursework, especially problem-based assessments that are project focused. The delivery pattern provides space in the semester for students to concentrate on completing the assessments.
Students will be introduced to core subjects in lectures and seminars. Classes provide the opportunity, through discussion, to refine and develop their legal knowledge.
