Aims and Fit of Module

This module introduces students to the international and global politics of development in modern Africa. The module is designed to study past and contemporary approaches, strategies and challenges in the politics of development. By examining some of the main historical and empirical trends, themes and challenges, students will gain a critical understanding of how international and global politics shape development practices across Africa.

Learning outcomes

A.	Analyze past and present developmental trajectories, strategies and implications across African contexts.

B.	Understand, contextualize and critically engage with different theories of development.

C.	Analyze the historical, social, and political-economy contexts in which development strategies are enacted.

D.	Identify the drivers of policy changes and the role of domestic and international actors/institutions in development processes.

E.	Conduct basic research by analyzing qualitative and quantitative data.
