Aims and Fit of Module

This course aims to gain knowledge and hand-on experiences in digital media systems and security applications; it also aims to introduce important multimedia security technologies and standards in assuring the rights of owners and consumers of multimedia systems; these include encryption, key management, watermarking, and media authentication; it also aims to introduce important topics on using multimedia information for security objectives, including video surveillance, and media sensor networks.

Learning outcomes

A. Demonstrate practical knowledge of multimedia systems and
security technologies.
B. Demonstrate knowledge of multimedia compression technologies
and standards.
C. Evaluate algorithms, theories and tools developed for
multimedia security issues, including digital rights
management, copyright protection, and authenticity verification
D. Demonstrate an awareness of theories, research issues and
recent developments of multimedia-based security systems such
as multimedia surveillance and biometric applications.
E. Recognise the security risks that may be involved in the
operation of computing and information systems. Use a risk
management process to identify, evaluate and mitigate risks and
adopt a holistic and proportionate approach to the mitigation
of security risks.

This module will be delivered through a combination of formal lectures, tutorials and
