Aims and Fit of Module
The module aims to enable students to understand information system construction in different industries, various departments, and plan IT systems for enterprises and layer design in the data architecture. Students are also able to understand the technical selection of each stage of enterprise informatization construction, the core business system construction methods and implementation paths through specific application scenarios and cases, such as the boundaries of different business subsystems, interfaces, data interaction.
Learning outcomes
A. Master the core information system planning and integration method of intelligent manufacturing
B. Demonstrate understanding of the intelligent business subsystems and application scenarios
C. Demonstrate understanding of the business functions and applications of ERP, PLM & PDM, APS, MES, SCADA, WMS and other business subsystems
D. Master the elements of enterprise information infrastructure construction under the background of industrial internet
E. Demonstrate understanding of the innovative applications of cutting-edge technologies such as big data and artificial intelligence in smart factories
F. Apply, through the case analysis of enterprise informationization construction in process and discrete industries, the related knowledge of intelligent manufacturing information system
Method of teaching and learning
The teaching philosophy of the module follows very much the philosophy of Syntegrative Education. This has meant that the teaching delivery pattern, which follows more intensive block teaching, allows more meaningful contribution from industry partners. This philosophy is carried through also in terms of assessment, with reduction on the use of exams and increase in coursework, especially problem-based assessments that are project focused. The delivery pattern provides space in the semester for students to concentrate on completing the assessments.
The module will be delivered through a combination of:
1. Theoretical study
2. Industry and application scenario analysis
3. Cases reviewing and explanation
4. Core system operation
