Aims and Fit of Module
This module aims to provide students an overview of intelligent robotics systems. The knowledge delivered is generally at introductory level, which covers (1) types of robotics systems and their classifications; (2) the key components and their functionality in intelligent robotics systems; (3) Fundamentals in robot modelling and control; (4) New technologies and their applications in robotics; (5) the state of art applications of intelligent robotics systems and the trends of the future development. After learning this module, students should gain a general picture on of robotics systems and the disciplines involved, how to make the robot become intelligent, and also future trends in development of robotics. This is important for students to understand the aim, objective and contents of the whole programme, as well as to plan their future career in the fields closely related to robotics.

Method of teaching and learning
The teaching philosophy of the module follows very much the philosophy of Syntegrative Education. This has meant that the teaching delivery pattern, which follows more intensive block teaching, allows more meaningful contribution from industry partners. This philosophy is carried through also in terms of assessment, with reduction on the use of exams and increase in coursework, especially problem-based assessments that are project focused. The delivery pattern provides space in the semester for students to concentrate on completing the assessments.
This module will be delivered by a combination of formal lectures, seminars and laboratory work.
