Aims and Fit of Module

This module is designed to equip students with the fundamental skills and techniques of translating and interpreting in the international business context. Through studying theories, translation strategies and analysing typical business texts, students can easily explore the genres, text types and linguistic features of business texts and then develop their skills in translating them. It covers specific and insightful business topics for students to develop an expertise in this subject area. This module also teaches students the principles and techniques of business interpreting, with a view to building up their interpersonal communication skills and to equipthem to work professionally in this field.

Method of teaching and learning

The teaching sessions are divided into two components: lectures and workshops. Lectures provide students with concepts, principles and subject area knowledge related to business translation and interpreting; workshops are conducted for students to carry out translation and interpreting practices, group discussions, case study analysis and role-plays. Active participation is essential in both forms of teaching.
