Aims
This Additional Learning Activity (ALA) aims to equip students with a range of skills which are not directly related to accounting but are increasingly in demand from the part of recruiters in the audit, assurance and consulting services sector today, including behavioural and interpersonal skills, cross-cultural skills, ethical reasoning skills, personal and professional development skills. The course is divided into two parts: the first covers topics related to organization behaviour and the need for personal development.
Learning outcomes 
A. A Learn about how to secure positive outcomes through interpersonal interactions in organizational networks

B Understand how to reduce risk and maximize opportunities inherent to cultural differences and similarities

C Apply ethical decision-making to help resolve ambiguous ethical situations

D Explain the role of coaching and personal development in achieving career objectives

Method of teaching and learning 
Seminars, case studies, self-assessments workshops, class discussions.
Syllabus 
This course contains 4 consecutive workshops of 3 hours each.


Workshop One: Employability in the audit and consulting sector. Interpersonal and behavioural skills


- concept of leadership

- contingency of leadership

- common attributes of leadership as applied in the context of audit and accounting professions through practical situations.

- Influencing tactics, communication and political tactics.

- framework for leadership communication


Workshop Two: Cross cultural competence

This part of the course aims to develop cross cultural and negotiation skills that are critical to the audit profession, and apply self-development tools for cultural competence and the importance of negotiation in auditing.


Workshop Three: Ethical skills

- the role and responsibilities of the internal auditor on ethics

- resolving ethical dilemmas

- ethical reasoning

- moral principles and concepts


Workshop Four: Personal development and coaching.
