This module provides students with an understanding of:

1. the role of securities markets in the economy and their basic mechanics and technical features

2. different classes of financial assets and their valuations

3. the mechanism and trend of securitization.

Learning outcomes 
A. appreciate the central role of securities markets in the economy and some ethical issues in securities markets;

B. analyse different classes of securities traded in financial markets and understand their risks and valuations;

C. describe and analyse the mechanism and trend of asset securitization.

Method of teaching and learning 
The module will be taught using a combination of lectures and tutorials. The lectures are intended to provide an introduction to the topics set out in the syllabus. The tutorials will cover technical aspects of the course and include exercises for completion. Student learning will be assisted by detailed references to the course text and other specific references given in the module handbook.
