Aims and Fit of Module

To introduce students to approaches to architecture, urbanism, space, and the built environment that originate in the humanities and social sciences, including geography, sociology, anthropology, and history.

Learning outcomes

A Evaluate the social context of architecture and how it influences architectural design.
B Illustrate an understanding of the meaning of community and its influence on the built environment.
C Demonstrate an understanding of basic research methods of data collection and analysis in humanistic disciplines. .

Method of teaching and learning

Lectures will introduce the students to key humanistic approaches to architecture, urbanism, space, and the built environment.  In hands-on exercises, students will learn to engage critically with these approaches.
