This module aims to provide a better understanding of Biochemistry. The importance of life-related matters will be highlighted. Good understanding of molecule structure of different types of bioorganic molecules, and metabolism/bioenergetics will be addressed.
Learning outcomes 
At the end of this module students should acquire knowledge of the underlying concepts and principles of:

A. The essential of biochemistry

B. The importance of amino acids/proteins/lipids/carbohydrates/enzymes

C. The principles and application of chemical reactions in life

D. Training in lab skills to understand biochemistry principles

E. They will also acquire the ability to apply, evaluate and interpret this knowledge to solve problems in Biochemistry.

Method of teaching and learning 
Course content will be delivered primarily via standard lectures and lab skill trainings, that will be accompanied by suitable lecture handouts (also available on ICE) and lab notes and reports. Students will also be guided to sections of specific textbooks and if reading of specific reviews or sources literature is required then copies of these will be made available in the library for use by the students

Lecture 9-10 Bioenergetics/Glycolysis/Citric Acid Cycle

Lab 1 Observation, Measurement and scaling at the macroscopic levels

Lab 2 Observations with a microscope

Lab 3 Fundamental Microbiological techniques

Lab 4 Measurement at Molecular level-determination of concentration

Lab 4 Variation at molecular level - enzymatic activity

Lab 6 Fundamental Biochemistry - determination Km and IC50
