The module aims to provide students the required skills to develop independent research in the field of urban planning, under the supervision of a member of the staff. The students will develop deep analytical skills to understand and evaluate regeneration practice in its’complex social, economical, and environmental contexts, and ultimately to be able to suggest alternative options.

Moreover, the students, upon completion of this module, are expected to be able to suggest ways, to implement feasible solutions for regenerating the existing urban fabrics in certain cultural and normative context(s).
Learning outcomes 
A. independently formulate specific research questions related to urban regeneration

B. manage independent research (including data collection and data processing)

C. suggest ways to improve regeneration practice based on evaluation

D. develop a critical perspective on the selected topic

E. produce a well-written and clearly presented thesis

F. develop an holistic analytical framework to understand the regeneration process

G. present the main findings of the research in public

Method of teaching and learning 
In order to foster independent learning the main teaching and learning method is tutorial. During semester the students will meet regularly with their supervisors for individual and group discussions. Three research method seminars will be provided for students to present their research methods and get critiques from their peers and staff. Short introductory lectures may be provided as part of the seminar depending on the students’ background.
Each student will develop their own research (including main research question, design and implementation method, evaluation, discussion, etc.) under the supervision of a lecturer.
