Aims
The main aims of this module are to introduce the basic principles and techniques of engineering surveying; to introduce the practical procedures of applying onsite surveying; and to introduce the setting out process.
Learning outcomes
A. Understand the basic principles of engineering surveying;
B. Determine the plan positions and heights of points using a range of surveying techniques;
C. Understand and use various methods of control surveying, including traversing, triangulation, trilateration.
D. Perform calculations of land areas and volumes of earthwork given suitable data;
E. Understand the basic knowledge of setting out of construction;
F. Present the surveying results by digital and graphical representations.
Method of teaching and learning
This module is taught through formal lectures and carrying out surveying field work.
