Aims
The aim of the module is to ensure students:

- realize how the individual taught subjects contribute a unified design project;

- promote teamwork and industrial awareness
Learning outcomes 
A. Appreciate reinforced concrete element and urban drainage within an integrated context, practical problems and methods associated with Civil Engineering design, and integration and management of environmental issues.

B. Apply the theoretical aspects of the associated courses to practical design along with real engineering problem solving.

C. Practically and conceptually design with the consideration of key elements: site investigation, foundation, structure, drainage network and costing.

D. Perform calculations for the various designs.

E. Apply the teamwork, time management, presentation and reporting skills.
Method of teaching and learning

Syllabus 

1)CDM regulations, sustainability and integrated design; teamwork will be discussed;





2) Design (CAD & manual checks) of reinforced concrete elements, slabs, beams, columns, foundations and the good concrete detailing will be discussed;





3) Concept design – structural design using commercial finite element software and hand calculations;





4) Drainage design including sizing criteria, rainfall design parameters (M5-60, r), drainage strategy and adoption, the process whereby sewers are vested in the undertaker and subsequently maintained at its expenses, will be discussed;





5) The composition of site investigation data and its translation into normal parameters used as foundation design values.
