To introduce the principles of building services engineering systems including heating, ventilation, air conditioning, water supply systems, lighting, acoustic, electricity, and transportation systems in buildings.
Learning outcomes 
A. Apply the fundamental theory of HVAC, lighting, acoustic, electricity, mechanical transportation, water supply, and sustainability to the building service systems design.

B. Analyze and interpret building and building services information to apply on building service engineering system design.

C. Design building services engineering systems by applying sustainable building services design principles according to green building standards.

D. Enhance transferrable skills: Group work, communication skills, interpersonal skills, report writing, and IT skills.

Method of teaching and learning 
The content of the module is delivered through formal lectures, tutorials, and a group work based coursework.
1) Introduction: Embodied energy in buildings, Zero carbon and green buildings, Principles of building service systems.

2) HVAC: Heat demand and systems in buildings, Ventilation requirement and design, Principles of Air-conditioning, Basic design calculations for HVAC.

3) Lighting: Factors affecting light demand, Natural and artificial lighting, Design of light requirement.

4) Acoustic: Principles of acoustics, Materials and absorbing effect, Basic acoustic design.

5) Introduction to other basic building services: Electricity loads and distribution,
Transportation systems in buildings such as lifts, escalators, and travellators, and Water supply systems.

6) Sustainability: Sustainable design principles and techniques, design codes for green buildings.
