Aims and Fit of Module

This module aims to build prepare masters students for their research projects. Especially in terms of assisting them in gathering, assessing and expressing written information.
The module is open and can be taken by all Master’s students to partially fulfill the requirements for Additional Learning Activities.

Learning outcomes

A	Have a critical awareness of the key issues influencing research ethics including plagiarism, collusion and originality.
B Critically assess sources of information and reference them appropriately.
C Be able to generate appropriate research questions, and hypotheses, and formulate procedures for an investigation
D Be able to produce abstracts, introductions and executive summaries and clearly identify the differences between them.
E Be able to identify and critically evaluate information sources from the library, internet and elsewhere, and generate research arguments based on this information.
F Effectively communicate research findings via both presentations and structured research reports

Method of teaching and learning

Lectures to introduce topics and tutorials to carry out more detailed investigations.
