Aims
This module aims to build student awareness of emerging technologies and engineering practices.


The module is open and can be taken by all Master’s students to partially fulfill the requirements for Additional Learning Activities.
Learning outcomes 
A Knowledge of current civil engineering industry practices and their application to meet client needs.

B Ability to assess the potential application of new techniques within a civil engineering industry context.

C Be able to critically evaluate the limitations over the practical implementation of advanced engineering techniques

D Ability to extract and present key elements of technical information and generate clear executive summaries.

Method of teaching and learning 
Invited talks from professional academics , industry professionals & government officials to introduce up to date practical information about the application of modern techniques within real world projects.
Syllabus 
13 weekly invited talks from industry professionals exposing students to:


• Case studies for current projects

• Technical information on the application of new/emergent/nonstandard techniques

• Introduction to the procedural aspects of work within the civil engineering industry

• Assessment of the complex dynamic between the various partners which have an input into engineering projects.
