Aims
The aim of this module is to introduce students to the basic laboratory principles and techniques

A Perform risk assessment for laboratory work

B handle chemicals reagents properly

C understand and perform basic laboratory techniques

D use basic laboratory instruments and equipment

E write lab report to appropriate standard

Tutorials and laboratory sessions
Syllabus 
• Health and safety issues, Material Safety Data Sheets, Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations

• Lab glassware identification and proper use

• Use of analytical balance and rotary evaporator

• Determination of physical constants of compounds (melting point, boiling point etc.)

• Titration

• Heating and cooling media

• Solvents

• Separation techniques (filtration, extraction, distillation, chromatography etc.)

• Drying solvents and glassware

• Spectroscopic techniques

• Keep records on the lab notebook and write proper lab reports
