Module Title Practical Chemistry
Module Level Level 3
Module Credits 5.00

Aims and Fit of Module

In this module, students will carry out advanced experimental work in Organic, Inorganic and Physical Chemistry. The general aims of the module are: (1) To give the student practical experience and understanding of advanced practical techniques for Organic, Inorganic and Physical Chemistry. (2) To develop appropriate techniques for each type of experiment (3) To show the use of appropriate characterisation techniques (4) To familiarise the student with the preparation of written reports

Learning outcomes

By the end of the module, students should be able to
(a) Carry out advanced practical techniques in the areas of Organic, Inorganic and Physical Chemistry.
(b) Give a reasoned written exposition of experimental work and achievements.
(c) Make valid deductions from acquired data.
(d) Be capable of giving comprehensible written accounts of experimental work.
(e) Demonstrate an understanding of shortcomings, experimental errors or weaknesses in data.
(f) Further develop their time management skills via coordination of the synthetic and analytical components of their experiments.
