Module Catalogues, Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University
Module Code: CLT002
Module Title: Chinese Language Stage 2
Module Level: Level 0
Module Credits: 5.00
Academic Year: 2021/22
Semester: SEM1
Originating Department: Modern Language Centre
Pre-requisites: CLT001
This module aims to help students with a basic Chinese knowledge to continually improve their Chinese study, bringing their Chinese language proficiency to a level equivalent to CEFR A1+.

All the Chinese modules have been developed taking into account the QAA benchmark statements for a full or minor component in a language. QAA benchmark statements relate to the language component comprising at least one-third of the study total, resulting in students at the end of the relevant degree programme being at level C1. These Chinese modules make up less than one third of study and so the realistic minimum that would be achieved for a student starting at a beginner level in year 1 is CEFR B2, though students with some initial knowledge would be at C1.
Learning outcomes
A. Be able to demonstrate understanding of a speaker of the target language if they speak very slowly and clearly about simple everyday topics

B. Be able to demonstrate understanding of very short, simple texts in the target language, when allowed to read very slowly

Method of teaching and learning
