Module Title: Chinese Language Stage 6
Module Level: Level 0
Module Credits: 5.00
Academic Year: 2019/20
Semester: SEM1/SEM2
Originating Department: English Language Centre
Pre-requisites: CLT005

Aims
This module aims to equip students linguistically and culturally to communicate successfully in Chinese, and help them to meet the requirements for CEFR B1+ equivalence.

All the Chinese modules have been developed taking into account the QAA benchmark statements for a full or minor component in a language. QAA benchmark statements relate to the language component comprising at least one-third of the study total, resulting in students at the end of the relevant degree programme being at level C1. These Chinese modules make up less than one third of study and so the realistic minimum that would be achieved for a student starting at a beginner level in year 1 is CEFR B2, though students with some initial knowledge would be at C1.
Learning outcomes
A. Be able to demonstrate understanding of straightforward information spoken clearly in the target language about everyday and study-related topics, identifying both general messages and specific details

B. Be able to demonstrate a confident understanding of the main points in straightforward texts in the target language on subjects of personal or professional interest

D. Be able to use the target language to write about a variety of familiar subjects well enough for others to follow their narrative or argument
