Aims
This module is a linked module with CLT007. The module aims to increase university students’ vocabulary, to improve their ability to express themselves orally and on paper, thus to improve their ability in comprehensive Chinese application and to bring their Chinese language proficiency to a level equivalent to CEFR B2+.

Learning outcomes 
A. Be able to demonstrate that they can follow lectures and presentations in a field of interest in the target language, even if the organization and language are both complex

B. Be able to demonstrate detailed understanding of target language texts within a field of interest, or understanding of specialized articles outside of their own field with some vocabulary assistance

C. Be able to use the target language to give a clear, well-structured presentation, with highlighting of significant points, and to express ideas and opinions clearly, precisely and convincingly in the context of a discussion

D. Be able to use the target language to produce writing that develops an argument, with appropriate highlighting of significant points and relevant supporting detail

Method of teaching and learning 
This module includes 2*2 hours seminars plus 1 hour lecture per week.





The seminars place emphasis on a task-based teaching philosophy, with tasks provided throughout the teaching process. The module advocates allowing students to learn and grasp the knowledge and skills of the language through the completion of assignments, and to improve their communication and comprehensive language abilities.





The lecture, which is a large group practice and review session, will be designed to support student learning in and after class.


Syllabus 
The syllabus will develop the four language skills of listening, reading, speaking and writing.
Each chapter is compiled to provide students with topic-related tasks to complete, with the topics closely and deeply related to real life.


The tasks in each chapter are divided into 2 types, those based on a text, and those given in extension, and their difficulty is on a gradient, forming a spiral pattern. The purpose of the tasks is to increase university students’ vocabulary, to improve their ability to express themselves orally and on paper, thus to improve their ability in comprehensive Chinese application.
