Aims and Fit of Module
This module aims to help students with a basic Chinese knowledge to continually improve their Chinese study, bringing their Chinese language proficiency to a level equivalent to CEFR A1+.
Learning outcomes
A Be able to demonstrate understanding of a speaker of the target language if they speak very slowly and clearly about simple everyday topics
B Be able to demonstrate understanding of very short, simple texts in the target language, when allowed to read very slowly
C Be able to use the target language to provide simple information orally, ask and answer simple questions, and respond to simple statements on very familiar topics
D Be able to use the target language to write simple sentences about themselves, including where they live and what they do
Method of teaching and learning
Communicative language teaching involves a high level of interaction between teacher and students. Teaching and assessment will revolve around the setting and completion of specified language tasks.
This module includes 4 seminar hours for 12 weeks, plus 2 hours induction in week 1. Students will have 50 hours of self-study to support their learnings.
In order to submit their coursework tasks, the students must attend at least 8 weeks of seminars hours out of the 12 total weeks.
