Aims and Fit of Module
This module aims to equip students linguistically and culturally to communicate successfully in Chinese, and help them to meet the requirements for CEFR higher B1+ equivalence.
Learning outcomes
A Be able to demonstrate understanding of straightforward information spoken clearly in the target language about everyday and study-related topics, identifying both general messages and specific details
B Be able to demonstrate a confident understanding of the main points in straightforward texts in the target language on subjects of personal or professional interest
C Be able to use the target language to give a prepared presentation, answer clear questions, and express opinions on abstract topics, such as films and music, in the context of a discussion
D Be able to use the target language to write about a variety of familiar subjects well enough for others to follow their narrative or argument
Method of teaching and learning
Communicative language teaching involves a high level of interaction between teacher and students. Teaching and assessment will revolve around the setting and completion of specified language tasks.
This module includes 4 seminar hours for 12 weeks, plus 2 hours induction in week 1. Students will have 50 hours of self-study to support their learnings.
In order to submit their coursework tasks, the students must attend at least 8 weeks of seminars hours out of the 12 total weeks.
