Aims and Fit of Module

The module aims to increase university students’ vocabulary, to improve their ability to express themselves orally and on paper, thus to improve their ability in comprehensive Chinese application and to bring their Chinese language proficiency to a level equivalent to CEFR B2.

Learning outcomes

A	Demonstrate understanding of both the main ideas and specific details of complex conversations and speeches on abstract and study-related topics delivered in Chinese
B Demonstrate both general and detailed understanding Chinese texts within a field of interest, or understanding of specialized articles outside of their own field, such as high technology and environmental protection
C Use the Chinese to give a clear, well-structured presentation, with highlighting of significant points, and to express ideas and opinions clearly, precisely and convincingly in the context of a discussion
D Use Chinese to produce writing that develops an argument, with appropriate highlighting of significant points and relevant supporting detail

Method of teaching and learning

Communicative language teaching involves a high level of interaction between teacher and students. Teaching and assessment will revolve around the setting and completion of specified language tasks. 
This module includes 3 seminar hours for 12 weeks, plus 2 hours induction in week 1. Students will have 62 hours of self-study to support their learnings. In order to submit their coursework tasks, the students must attend at least 8 weeks of seminars hours out of the 12 total weeks.
